Gungahlin Moon Festival

If you haven't quite finished celebrating the Mid Autumn Festival, head on down to the Gungahlin College Lawn Area on the 14th of September for the Gungahlin Moon Festival. There'll be performances of singing, dance, martial arts, waist drum dance, recitation, and traditional Chinese musical instruments. Some Chinese cultural arts will be demonstrated at the venue, like calligraphy, Chinese painting, and paper cuts. There will also be Asian food stalls in the venue and a lucky prize draw. Pizza & Pyjamas: Toy Story @ the NFSA

Love pizza? Love your pjs? Combine the two, head to the National Film and Sound Archive, and enjoy a screening of the family classic Toy Story. This extra-cosy nighttime screening is perfect for the whole family. On Friday the 13th of September at 6pm. Book tickets at the NFSA website.

Floriade

It's not spring in Canberra without a visit to Floriade! Australia's biggest celebration of spring, celebrating its 37th year, will run from the 14th of September - 13th of October. Stop by this free event to view over one million beautiful flowers planted throughout Canberra's Commonwealth Park. Lollipops Playland - Free Entry!

The Tulip Top Gardens

The gorgeous Tulip Top Gardens are opening their gates on the 11th of September. There's plenty to keep you entertained, with an onsite cafe, Dutch pancake and coffee parlour, free live music on selected dates, and plenty of room for picnics and running around. Better yet, if you want to take the hassle out of planning, pre-order a Contentious Character curated picnic hamper. Pick it up when you arrive, sit back, and relax. Soy Candle Making for Mums with Bubs

If you're looking to explore your creativity while meeting other mums, then head along to The Majura Women's Group soy candle making session. Lisa from Peli & Co will teach about the art of candle making. There will be a choice of fragrances to choose from and participants will get to take their handmade candles home with them. All mums of kids 0-5 welcome. Membership for the Majura Women's Group is $10 yearly, or you can attend a one-off session for a gold coin donation. Visit their website for more details.

The National Arboretum's Flowering Forest Walks

The start of spring sees the Arboretum's guided Flowering Forest Walks get underway. Join the hour-long walk across the rolling hills of the Arboretum to celebrate the forests and gardens coming in to flower. Sessions run every Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 14th September - 13 October 2024. Adult tickets are $5, children aged 12-16 are free. Visit the Arboretum's website for ticket info.

Little Oak Sanctuary fundraising BBQ

If you need to get a weekend grocery run out of the way, why not head to the Dickson shops and support the Little Oak Sanctuary at the same time? Join them on the 15th of September for their bakesale/veggie sausage sizzle and enjoy some tasty treats while helping raise funds for the animals of Little Oak Sanctuary! Running at the Dickson Shops (outside Coles/Woolworths) from 11am - 3pm. Find more info here.

360 Fashion Market

Got teens who love fashion? Get them to the 360 Fashion Market on the 15th of September to find some high-end designer and vintage clothing and accessories. Not only is the market dedicated to sustainable fashion, but it's also got free entry, free parking, and it's indoors (just incase we get some of the springtime rain!). Brindabella Business Park Spring Markets

Take advantage of the warmer weather and head along to the town square at Brindabella Business Park for their spring markets on the 12th of September from 10:30am - 2:30pm. With food, drinks, art, flowers, crafts and more, there's something the whole family will love. Find out more here.

Floriade @ the Little Burley Markets

To help celebrate spring, the Little Burley Markets are joining forces with Floriade to help spread the Art in Bloom experience across the city. With floral themed stalls, kids activities, workshops and so much more, there will be plenty to help you and your family celebrate the arrival of spring. The markets will be running every Saturday from 14th September - 12th October. More info available here.

Hughes Repair Cafe

For kids with an interest in how things work, head to the Hughes Repair Cafe on the 14th of September. If your child has something in their life that needs repairing, send them along to the Repair Cafe to learn how to fix it with the help of skilled volunteers. The following repairers will be available on the 14th of September:

- clothing repairs

- electrician

- jewelry repairs

- bike repairs

- general handy repairs

- soft toy repairs


This fun and hands-on event not only helps to reduce household waste, but it will also help you save money by not having to buy new items. Win win! Find more info here.
