September is here and Canberra is fully embracing the gorgeous sunny weather! This week sees the start of the Canberra Moon Festival, plus the Tharwa Bush Fair, Chicago the musical, and a lot more to keep the family happy.
Canberra Moon Festival
Canberra Moon Festival (CMF) is the first multi-Asian cultural festival event in Canberra. There will be food, drinks, performances, lanterns, free activities, festival games and an attempt to break the world record for longest noodle. Sounds awesome, right? From the 6th - 8th of September, City Walk & Petrie Plaza will be lit up with lanterns and buzzing day & night with a range of free family friendly activities, including making mooncakes, lanterns, handheld fans and sugar painting. Art for Pre-schoolers - A Little Look at Art
The National Gallery's A Little Look at Art is back, helping young ones to connect with key works of art through imagining and making activities in the gallery, followed by creative play in the Tim Fairfax Learning Studio. This free activity is for children aged 3–5 years to enjoy with parent/carers. Siblings are also welcome. Sessions occur on the first Thursday of every month. Bookings required.
Tharwa Bush Fair
The Tharwa Bush Fair is a much-loved annual social event for the whole family and the community. You can expect to see incredible stall holders, the famous Tharwa Fair cake stall, local artists, raffles, live bands, a fire truck, games, a raffle (with awesome prizes), arts & crafts, and much more! Baseball Canberra 'Come & Try Day'
Want to get your kiddos into a new, exciting sport? Experience the world of baseball with a day of skills, drills, and great food! The first 50 players aged 6-10 who register will receive a free baseball glove. Bring your friends and neighbours and join Baseball Canberra for a festival of baseball on September 8. Makers-Con @ the Old Bus Depot Markets
Off the back of Oz Comic-Con, the Old Bus Depot Markets are holding their Makers-Con markets on the 8th of September. This exciting event for pop culture fans and enthusiasts will unite stalls and attractions that showcase a range of hobbies with the high-quality handcrafts, attractions and demonstrations. Along with regular stallholders, there will be several specialist stalls that seek to spotlight a colourful mix of interests: live action role-play, steampunk, leather makers, costume designers, millinery, and comic books. The Canberra Disability Expo
If you have a child in your life living with a disability, head along to EPIC on the 6th & 7th of September for the free Canberra Disability Expo. The event brings together a wide range of products and services to help people live their best life, as well as presenting a range of informative and interactive presentations delivered by industry experts. The expo will also feature a range of informative and interactive presentations delivered by industry experts, all-abilities adult and children’s entertainment, and food vendors. More details here.
Kids Play Saturdays @ Westfield
On the first Saturday of every month, Westfield Belconnen is holding their fun-filled Kids Play Saturdays. If you're a Westfield member, head along with your kiddos for plenty of fun and creativity, with different activities each month. Come ready to colour, create and make your own craft! As an added bonus, the first 50 participants will receive 1 x free small coffee per Westfield member with a participating child. Chicago the Musical
If you've got budding musical teenagers in your house, take them along to see Chicago at the Canberra Theatre Centre. As the longest running musical on Broadway, this show is the epitome of razzle dazzle. On from the 7th - 29th of September. Grab tickets here before they sell out!
