The Magic World of Crazy Science - 17th April @ 11:30am

ATL presents ‘Erth’s Prehistoric Picnic’ - a live screening at the Mill Theatre at Dairy Road

If you’re a fan of Erth and their incredible puppetry (featuring at Canberra’s Enlighten Festivals in 2024 and 2025), then you’ll love this screening of their Prehistoric Picnic show, featuring a menagerie of ancient creatures (including a lot of dinosaurs!). The Twisty Science Show is the story of how our DNA makes each one of us unique, told using colorful balloon creations. It is based on the book, “What Makes You Unique” written by Dr. Chloe Lim, a scientist and professional balloon artist. Animals Reimagined @ the National Archives of Australia  - 14th to 24th April - for children aged 7 to 15

Head to the National Archives of Australia these school holidays for an unforgettable adventure! Explore the stunning 20 Years of Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition, then let your child unleash their imagination in an interactive workshop where they'll create surreal mixed-media collages, reimagining animals in fantastical scenarios—like frogs in top hats, lizards in space or penguins driving the school bus! $5 or free for NAA members. 



National Museum of Australia

The National Museum of Australia is bringing two exciting activities to Canberra kids these school holidays: 


  • Rock on school holiday program - 14 to 22 April - suitable for ages 5–12 years

Q Gallery - Running on various days from the 14th - 28th April

If you’ve got a budding artist, send them along to one of Q Gallery’s art-based school holiday activities these school holidays. Activities on offer include painting on canvas, painting on tote bags, collage class, printmaking on -t-shirts or tote bags, mixed media class, and still life painting. Costs apply. Autumn Digital Shutterbugs @ Photo Access - 14 April — 15 April 2025 (9am - 4pm) - Suited for ages 8 -16 years old

Learn the exciting skills that digital photography can offer with Photo Access’ Autumn Digital Shutterbugs school holiday program! Over two days, participants will learn the basics of digital photography and studio lighting, go on interesting photo walks and learn how to express stories through image-making. Students will learn the ins and outs of a digital camera, how to capture images successfully, how to select and edit images, as well as understand lighting and studio photography, still lifes and portraits. Art Steps by Lindy Lee School Holiday Program @ the NGA

- 14th - 23rd April - For children aged 5 to 12

Art Steps is a series of creative making activities produced by artists for children to enjoy with family and friends. In this Art Steps program, artist Lindy Lee invites us into the world of Ouroboros (an immersive, public sculpture by Lindy Lee on display in the National Gallery forecourt) through paper cutting and light and shadow play. Claymation Creations Workshop @ Photo Access Canberra - 22nd - 23rd April - ages 8 -16

Calling all future filmmakers! This exciting 2-day workshop led by stop-motion animation experts is the perfect way to spend your school break. Get ready to get hands-on and make your own film. In this workshop kids will learn everything they need to know to get started on their animation and filmmaking journey.   • Portrait Play  - Join in Portrait Play these school holidays and explore portraits and music. Discover musical instruments hidden in the portraits and get creative on your journey through the galleries. All materials provided. For children aged 4–8 years to enjoy with their grown-up. Daily from Monday 14 April until Thursday 17 April. $7 per child. 

  • Story Time - Explore the magic of a childhood spent in the Australian bush with the book Secrets of the Seasons, written by Heidi Cooper Smith. Canberra Museum & Gallery school holiday activities - 14, 16 & 23rd April - 8 - 14 years

Join in on three different activities at CMAG these school holidays, including Nature Art Journaling at Mugga Mugga Cottage, Exploring Stage Design (inspired by Sidney Nolan's theatre and costume designs), and Create a Ceramic Coral Reef. Art & Action @ Tuggeranong Arts Centre - 16th & 17th April, 9:30am – 3pm - ages 6-8 and 9-12

Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s April school-holiday program gives children a chance to show off their creativity. Guided by a team of professional artists, musicians, dancers, and actors, the one-day Art and Action program is an action-packed visual and performing arts school holiday explosion of creative joy. Everyone will start the day playing theatre sports and other drama games before breaking into smaller classes based on age. Students will take part in art classes exploring painting on canvas, with the opportunity to take home their masterpieces at the end of the day. Fresh Funk dance tutors will introduce young ones to Street-funk dance, giving participants the opportunity to learn a dance routine and have fun exploring this popular style of dance. Easter Egg-citement @ Corin Forest - 18th - 21st April - all ages

If you’re a winter lover, then make sure you head along to Corin Forest this easter for a play in the snow with the family. These early access events (for under 2s, 2 - 7 year olds, and 8 +) include an easter egg hunt, snowplay session (with free toboggan hire), and an alpine slide session (for those 2+). National Arboretum 

The National Arboretum has a range of fun school holiday activities on offer, and we can't think of a better way to spend the spring holidays than heading out to this beautiful natural landscape. Activities on offer include:


  • Fun with Fossils - 23 & 24 April 2025, for 7 -12 year olds

    Head to the Arboretum for a morning of walking, crafting and discovery! In collaboration with the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival, your child will be guided on a walk of wonder through the home of some of the oldest species of trees on Earth, then create their very own botanical fossil, before finishing the session exploring the fossils hidden in the new National Rock Garden. This workshop offers an inspiring blend of geology, art, and nature, a perfect outdoor experience for discovering secrets of the past. $15 per child. 



  • Family Orienteering - 12 April - 28 April 2025 (runs daily) Get the family together for a few hours of fun in the forest. Pick up your map and clue sheet from the Village Centre and head out into the forests and gardens. This is a drop in activity and no bookings are required, there is a cost of $5.

Heritage Festival

There’s a range of exciting events happening as part of the ACT Heritage Festival. 


  • Canberra Traditional BoatFest - 13th April 

Visit this display of traditional boats that are powered by human muscle, wind on sails, steam, electricity, or old style petrol motors. They have been lovingly built in wood and restored, some over 100 years, and include Australia’s oldest paddle steamer Enterprise and the historic gaff cutter yacht Aorere.   • 12 Hour Theatre Project - 12th April (9am - 9pm) - ages 7 - 25 

The 12 Hour Theatre Project is a chaotic, frenetic, ballistic, theatrical rollercoaster, as all-action teams of young artists aged 7–25 come together to devise, rehearse, produce and perform a brand new piece of theatre! It’s free. It’s for everyone. It comes with pizza. It’s literally the most fun you can have in a single day. Bookings are essential for this event.   • Digging for Treasures @ Little Griffins - 16th - 23rd April - all ages

Get messy at Little Griffins and dig deep for lost treasures hidden beneath the sand. Create a fun fossil of your treasure to take home. Enjoy moulding kinetic sand, singing songs and listening to stories all at the National Capital Exhibition. This is a free event but spots need to be booked here



  • Canberra Railway History Unearthed - 18th April - 11th May - all ages

All aboard to unearth Canberra’s unique railway history! Explore vintage carriages and discover over a century of rail travel to the capital region. Visitors of all ages will delight in entering the cab of Locomotive 1210 that pulled the first train into Canberra and climbing into vintage rail motors.   • Unearthed Treasure Hunt - 18th April - 11th May - all ages

Embark on a free adventure through Canberra City with a short, self-paced journey that will uncover historic sites, public artworks and local landmarks.   • Canberra Fire Museum Open Days - 19th April - 10th May - all ages

Come and visit the Canberra Fire Museum in the historic 1939 Forrest Fire Station. See equipment, uniforms, and vehicles from more than 100 years of extraordinary firefighting history in the ACT. Kids can unearth treasures in a self-guided heritage hunt and get behind the wheel of a fire truck made for Canberra’s future firefighters. This is a free event. Get all the details here



  • Dinosaurs Unearthed - 22nd April - Ages 7–12

  • Discover the Richness of Ngunawal Language: Children's session - 24th April - ages 5-12

Join the Winanggaay Ngunnawal Language Aboriginal Corporation for a special free children’s event where children aged 5–12 can learn Ngunawal greetings and children’s songs! Come and try out your navigation skills on a short nature based, group orienteering quest led by a Tidbinbilla Ranger. Unearth the natural elements of the reserve while learning some interesting facts about the surrounding environment. Suitable for children aged 5 to 12 years, and their families.   • Canberra Railway Museum Junior Photo Competition - 18th April - 11th May - 8 - 16 years

Young railway enthusiasts aged 8 to 16 years are invited to enter the junior photo competition with their very own photo featuring railway heritage from the ACT region. Come and admire a selection of the best photos on display at the Canberra Railway Museum throughout the Heritage Festival. Prizes are available. Show the judges what you have unearthed! Canberra Airport Runway Tour - 15th April @ 10am & 11am - recommended for children 7+ years

During the school holidays, Canberra Airport is offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes bus tour of the airport. The Runway Tour will be led by Canberra Airport staff as they share information about aircraft operations, interesting aviation facts, and more! Secrets of the Australian Bush - Easter School Holidays Adventures - 14th - 24th April - children 4-10 years

This Easter school holiday, discover the amazing secrets of the plants that live in the Australian bush on this family-friendly tour at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Travel on the magical Flora bus, walk through the Rainforest Gully, visit the Red Centre Garden and finish at the Paperbark Treehouse.
